Have you heard of monkey bread? I hadn’t and then, suddenly it was all the rage. I wasn’t totally convinced with a lot of the recipes, until I found a kind of half-assed version using Pillsbury biscuit dough. The recipe is actually from the Pillsbury website. It can be found here.
It was unbelievably simple. We’re talking seconds worth of effort. All you require are two cans of the Pillsbury biscuit dough. Cut the 20 biscuits found in each can into a further 6 pieces. Then, in a small bowl, combine 1 cup of melted butter with half a cup of brown sugar. Pour equal amounts into a greased muffin tin.
In a ziplock bag, combine 1/3 cup of sugar with 2 tsp of cinnamon. Add your biscuit pieces and shake them all around until well coated. Then, divvy up 10 pieces of biscuit dough into each muffin cup.
Bake for about 15 minutes at 350F. Makes enough for 12. They’re essentially a piecey cinnamon bun. Without the icing. So they could use some icing, but then you might as well just make cinnamon buns.
Hassle level – 1 out of 10. I mean, they don’t make themselves.
